The Forklift Operator performs duties operating machines used to lift heavy materials, goods, and equipment. Operators need to be skilled in maneuvering forklifts through warehouses and loading docks while adhering to strict safety protocols, using several types of forklifts, including sit-down models, stand-up models, and order pickers, depending on the load being handled. They also inspect forklift equipment regularly and keep it clean and maintained. The job requires excellent communication skills since operators frequently work with warehouse staff, truck drivers, and supervisors to ensure the timely delivery of products.

Salary Range: $15 to $19 per hour
Work Hours: 7 am to 4 pm
Reports to: VP of Manufacturing
Location: 100% onsite

 

Essential Duties

  • Operate a forklift to move and transport products, materials, and equipment around the warehouse or manufacturing facility.

  • Inspect and maintain the forklift regularly, including checking fluid levels, tires, brakes, and other essential components to ensure they are in good working condition.

  • Follow safety guidelines and protocols when operating a forklift to minimize the risk of accidents, injuries, or damage to property.

  • Understand and follow work orders, production schedules, and other instructions to efficiently move and allocate products and materials as needed.

  • Pallet picking and stacking in a safe and timely way with strict adherence to schedules.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping floors, cleaning spills, and removing debris to promote a safe and efficient work environment.

  • Communicate with supervisors, team members, and other employees to coordinate activities, resolve problems, and ensure timely delivery of products and materials.

  • Monitor inventory levels, track shipments, and assist with loading and unloading trucks and containers as needed.

  • Report any issues, problems, or malfunctions with equipment, products, or materials to the appropriate personnel in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Operate warehouse and manufacturing equipment as needed and perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or managers.

  • Display a cheerful outlook, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the production team.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency

  • Excellent listing and communication skills with basic computer literacy

  • Awareness of your surroundings, practice caution and following safety guidelines as well as the ability to understand and implement safety protocols and procedures.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and direct others when necessary.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of shipping and receiving protocols and tracking procedure

  • 1-year experience in a warehouse and fast-paced production line environment

  • OSHA Forklift Certification

 

Physical Requirements

  • Operators must be in good health and have high stamina.

  • Use their hands to manage, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Move and lift at least 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment

  • The employee spends the day on their feet and must follow strict safety rules.

  • They wear safety glasses to protect their eyes from airborne debris. Loud noise from machinery requires the use of hearing protectors.

  • They wear hard-toe shoes or boots to protect their feet from potentially dropped objects.
