Fiberglass Mold Technician

The Fiberglass Mold Technician performs duties such as diagnosing issues in performing cosmetic repairs, replacing defective parts, applying fiber layers to surfaces, sculpting materials, using molds to create new parts, building new molds, performing maintenance on existing molds, and creating new molds as production schedules dictate.

Salary Range: $17 to $20 per hour
Work Hours: 7 am to 4 pm
Reports to: VP of Manufacturing
Location: 100% onsite

Essential Duties
-
Read and comprehend written and verbal instructions, detailed blueprints, and other similar authorized drawings and documents, and be capable of doing basic math.

Cut and trim composite parts to close tolerances per instructions using hand tools such as a hand router, hand drill, hand sander, and inspection equipment.

Structural bonding and fastening of composite assemblies, including surface preparation for bonding mold, fiberglass reinforcements, and structural mold materials.

Skilled at handling delicate materials and sensitive repairs with precision such as mending and restoring fiberglass as well as gel-coat damage.

Experience with spray and hand lay-up of FRP and composite materials (Fiberglass, Phenolic resins, honeycomb core, OSB, balsa, and composite inlay and core).

Understand and execute work orders in a timely and professional manner, finalizing paperwork while maintaining a clean working environment.

Maintain clean, organized work areas, and securely stored equipment and supplies.

Inspect work for the highest quality, maintain strict attention to detail.

Ensures that the required documentation is complete and in compliance with regulations and standards and follows all safety policies and procedures.

Collaborate with other team members to ensure that production schedules are met.

Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
Minimum Requirements

Must be able to work in controlled ventilated environments with a respirator mask and personal protection equipment (PPE)

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with effective communication

Quality-conscious and detail-oriented

Minimum 2 years of mold composite-making experience
Preferred Requirements

Highly organized and self-motivated with knowledge of basic prep and keeping a clean job site (5S and Kaizen experience and knowhow a plus)

Technical ability and problem-solving orientation

Associates Degree in composite materials
Physical Requirements

Ability to walk, stand, and lift heavy objects for an extended period.

Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Repeat the same movements while wearing PPE the entire day.

Bend or twist their body and move and lift at least 50 pounds.

They wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, hard-toe shoes, and Tyvek paint suits, as necessary.
